I always get these McGraw-Hill books. They always have a sample database and code so you can get "hands-on" experience which is the best way I learn. I haven't purchased one yet that I didn't get all the way through the material and completed all the "hands-on" exercises. Excellent books in my humble opinion! The only issue I had with the Business Intelligence material is that even though you create ETL packages and multi-dimensional cubes based on the models, it would be great if the book c [...]

I have to say first off, that this book is extremely helpful in learning not only SQL Server 2012, but Business Intelligence practices as well. The writing is concise, and precise - meaning that it is easy to absorb the tremendous amount of information here quickly. Acronyms are spelled out frequently - usually at the beginning of each chapter, which while a little repetitive, really helps cement them in memory. The book is nicely divided into explanation, or lecture I'd call it, and guided exer [...]

Advantage:1, Best book to explain concept of BI. Some illustration is perfect!2, Import topic such as data mining, Tabular BI semantic Model, is covered while other books misses them.Disadvantage:1, Samples are not easy to follow. Too many text with too limited pictures.2, Quality of Kindle version is not satisfying enough.Conclusion:1, Part I (concepts/models) should be read first.2, Exercises of this book should be done for reader which has built some fundamental already, most likely through r [...]

This book is a workout covers so many areas with so many hands-on exercises after anotherr 800+ pages. It really helped me learn about SSIS, SSAS, SSDT, SSMS, Multidimensional, Tabular, Data Mining, Data Modeling and on and on. It has a very broad reach of business intelligence subject matterd it really prepares you for a more in-depth approach with your next book. I bought the print version, which I recommend because the book becomes a companion to you, (due to all the step-by-step exercises [...]

The book was required reading for a class I took. The book is helpful and I appreciate the author's personality that comes through in his writing.I downloaded this book on my Kindle rather than buying the paperback version. I do not recommend doing that. It's difficult to see the images and instructions in the learn by doing sections.
