The mainstream refers to Adam Smith as the pioneer of the free market ideology. This is due to the very superficial reading, if any, ot the works of Adam Smith. Neoliberals praise him, neo-keynesians codemn him, both for wrong reasons. Already the reading of WN proves this mainstream opinion wrong. Most refer to the famous notion of "the invisible hand", which in fact just apperars twice in a book of more than 1'000 pages (see also: Emma Rothschild's "Adam Smith and the 'invisible hand'", Americ [...]

I bought the version of The Wealth of Nations by Bantam Classics, which was a mistake. About 50 pages of the book were apparently bound when not placed correctly. Which resulted in these pages being cut way to high, leading to the loss of plenty of text. The quality is very low and the price is a total scam. Also, the book was damaged at delivery. I recommend the investment of a few more Euros for a proper book.

Smith's observations and recommendations are as relevant today as they were in the late 1700s. If only more governments and governed had taken the time to learn from this book.
